It all began

ON THE HILLS
DE HAUTE-PROVENCE

A PARADISE
BORN IN THE HEART OF THE HILLS

Haute-Provence is a luminous region, where nature reveals its most authentic beauty. In this enchanting setting, between limpid skies and sun-drenched hilltop villages, the vegetation exhales its unique fragrances. Here, everything is untouched and preserved.

The exceptional richness of the local flora draws its vigor from a terroir shaped by man over time: lavender fields converse harmoniously with vineyards, orchards stretch generously alongside wild bushes, while aromatic plants bloom abundantly on the gentle slopes of the hills.

These same hills naturally inspired our name: Collines de Provence. Our story began precisely here, four decades ago, at the foot of these green hills, opposite the charming Provencal village of Mane.

Our history is rooted in this natural paradise... and we've remained loyal to it ever since.

It all began in 1982, in Mane, in the heart of the Luberon Natural Park in Haute-Provence. Back then, Collines de Provence was just a small, modest workshop, but it was here that a wealth of creative ideas blossomed! As always, beauty lies in simplicity, and often right before our eyes. All it took was one bright idea:

Design a delicate range of cosmetics inspired by the natural treasures of our immediate environment. Why not give pride of place to local masters such as Verbena, Lavender and the Rose de Grasse? Thus was born Collines de Provence's very first collection of natural cosmetics. It was in this way that our inspiration from nature was transformed into a veritable beauty ritual. It was the promising beginning of a brand that proudly defines itself as «Perfumer and Botanist».

OUR HISTORY
THE BIG STORY BEHIND A SMALL SUCCESS

Collines de Provence's growing reputation is due to the ideal combination of nature's bountiful resources and the region's traditional know-how. However, this reputation quickly spread beyond local borders when Collines de Provence turned its attention to the ancient art of perfuming interior spaces. In days gone by, sachets of lavender, bouquets of dried flowers or soaps were delicately slipped between fabrics to diffuse pleasant scents and purify the air. Collines de Provence simply wanted to sublimate this ancestral tradition.

In fact, our personal history is directly linked to history when we remember that the word «lavender» derives from the Latin «lavare», in reference to its use for washing and perfuming linen. The hills of Provence have always attracted botanists, perfumers and merchants in search of the rarest and most precious essences. Here, in the lands of Haute-Provence, history and geography blend harmoniously through time.

To further enhance this heritage, while meeting modern expectations, Collines de Provence has created its own workshop, entirely dedicated to the creation of refined home fragrances and delicately scented objects, transforming an age-old tradition into a true contemporary art of living.

FRAGRANCE THE AIR AND WATER

In the early 1990s, Collines de Provence made its elegant mark on living rooms and bathrooms alike. Always faithful to its love of natural ingredients, the brand grew in popularity thanks to two emblematic creations: potpourris and oil lamps.

Potpourris, composed of petals, bark and thin slices of dried fruit, delicately diffuse their plant fragrances to pleasantly perfume any room. As for oil lamps, they are made by carefully inserting flowers and foliage into large glass flasks sealed with cork stoppers. These traditional decorative objects, somewhat forgotten, now regain all their nobility and seduce once again with their authentic charm.

FLOWER BOUQUETS AND HERBAL INFUSIONS

In the 2000s, Collines de Provence continued to explore the benefits of plants. The brand developed a unique range of natural cosmetics enriched with plant extracts. Its research also extended to the remarkable properties of olive leaf, used in moisturizers, shower gels and body milks.

But it's above all thanks to the subtle combination of the elegant transparency of glass, the delicate diffusion of fragrance and the absorbent effect of wooden stems that Collines de Provence has created a totally innovative product: the perfumed bouquet.

This original creation quickly became emblematic, often imitated but never equaled. While its concept has spread far and wide, Collines de Provence remains the undisputed benchmark for quality and authenticity.

Originally, the fragrances diffused by these elegant rattan bouquets were faithful to the traditional scents of Provence: Amber, Garrigue or Lavender. With their growing success, new scents inspired by nature emerged and were offered in a variety of forms:

Nuage de Coton, Thé Blanc, Lys des Collines or Pain d'Épices come to life as hand-crafted candles, hand-poured in the workshops, with finishes and decorations made entirely by hand.

Collines de Provence proudly joins the great tradition of Grasse perfumers, those famous «noses» whose expertise is recognized worldwide. They select exceptional natural raw materials from the four corners of the globe: Geranium Bourbon, Vanilla, Patchouli, Neroli, Hibiscus... all these aromatic treasures converge harmoniously in Provence.

In 2003, the brand continued to innovate with a new generation of products and an expanded collection of scented objects: ceramic decorations, scented plaster ornaments, scented sachets, aromatic balls and pendants further enriched and diversified the ways to scent your home.

A HOUSE OF FRAGRANCE

During the 2010s, Collines de Provence established itself as a veritable benchmark in the world of scents, recognized by both specialists in the field and passionate connoisseurs. With an international presence, the brand is now distributed in over 35 countries, and even has dedicated boutiques, notably in Japan.

Like a haute-couture atelier, Collines de Provence imagines exclusive creations based on the precious know-how of an ancestral heritage. This expertise skilfully combines tradition and innovation, giving birth to a singular style. Who would have thought, for example, of bringing together two fragrances simply because they share the same initial? This is how unexpected encounters between natural ingredients have given rise to unique fragrances such as Basil & Bergamot, Rose & Rhubarb and Vanilla & Vetiver.

PROVENCE IN HAUTE COUTURE

Since the 2020s, Collines de Provence has continued to evolve, offering ever more original and innovative creations. The company's cosmetics are becoming increasingly sophisticated, incorporating advanced extraction processes to produce natural formulas with high-performance active ingredients. As a result, our eaux de toilette, eaux de parfum, balms and butters now boast a level of technical sophistication worthy of the finest laboratories. Thanks to these high standards, Collines de Provence is proud of the undeniable effectiveness of its products.

But the brand never forgets the delicate gestures of the seamstresses of yesteryear, who carefully crafted perfumed sachets and lavender-trimmed dolls, or the elegant ladies who delicately scented their linens and interiors with aromatic herbs. To pay tribute to these gestures of yesteryear, Collines de Provence is launching the «Couture» collection in 2021. The «Coton Blanc», «Étole de Lin» and «Soie Sauvage» fragrances enrich the range, in a subtle nod to this artisanal heritage. In keeping with this approach to excellence and attention to detail, each creation benefits from an exceptional finish, marked in particular by an elegant colored thread hand-stitched directly onto the packaging!
